Personal Finance Money Tips: Financial Consideration for New Parents in Malaysia

There is another alternative, which is private division of government hospital. It is still cheaper than most private hospitals, and you can choose your doctor.

My son was born in the private division of HUKM (7th floor) during festive holiday time (hari raya aidilfitri). Considered normal delivery, only head suction is applied to pull him out. Total cost was close to RM2000.

I like this article since it reflects the things parents have to go through to have children. Therefore some financial planning is necessary before deciding how many children we can afford to have. I think it would be unfair to have more when we are unable to afford to give them a good quality of life.

Having the first child was still very manageable. Having subsequent children was more difficult and we really need to budget and plan our expenses to cover all the needs like milk powder, diapers, insurance, childcare, medical bills, etc. as mentioned by KC. Then when they are growing up, we need to consider schooling expenses, tuition, education fund, etc.

Overall, it is a fun and challenging experience but there will be times when you do get frustrated as well. My advice to other parents is to enjoy your time with your kids as they grow up so fast especially the first few years.
